The island of Santa Catalina is located 20 miles off the coast of Southern California, and is a popular destination for sailing trips from surrounding ports of call.
This piece depicts a sloop approaching the Catalina harbor of Avalon, greeted by curious (and perhaps hungry) local gulls. Taking advantage of a generous tailwind, the sloop flies a large genoa sail in the front, with a bright red mainsail.
"Catalina" includes Padauk, Aspen, Yellowheart, Red Oak, and Ash in the design pieces and is on a Walnut cabinetry grade laminate backboard.
